State Governors have asked the Federal Government for a bailout, in the form of budget support. Ebonyi state Governor, Dave Umahi, disclosed this to reporters on Thursday at the end of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. Umahi said the request is meant to assist Governors offset staff salary arrears. The Governor also revealed that most of the Governors persuaded Finance Minister, Kemi Adoesun, to find ways of sustaining the provision of budget support to the states. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday suspended the former chairman of the party in Anambra State, Ken Emeakayi. The suspension which takes immediate effect will last for a period of four years. In Augusts, National Caretaker Committee of the PDP suspended Emeakayi for a month over alleged act of indiscipline. The Japanese Government has donated an additional one million U.S. dollars to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Nigeria, to respond to critical needs of refugees and Internally Displaced Persons ( IDPs ). Ms Elizabeth Mpimbaza, Senior External Relations Officer, UNHCR, Nigeria, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja. She said that the money was given to the agency to cater for the needs of people forced to flee their homes, including Nigerian refugees wishing to return home in the northeast of the country. Mpimbaza said that the gesture brings Japan’s total contribution to UNHCR Nigeria in 2017 to 3.5 million U.S dollars. Unidentified gunmen have abducted an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adeniyi , and three of his family members in Kaduna. A Florida man was bitten by a nurse shack and had to struggle for a long moment with the help of friends to set himself free from the animal's jaws. The incident was caught on video. Ifeanyi Ejik , lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has sued the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai over Nnamdi Kanu’s alleged disappearance since a reported September 14, 2017 raid by the Army on his residence. In an originating motion filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Ejik wants the court to give an order mandating General Buratai to produce Kanu in court on his next adjournment date for the criminal trial he is facing in October.
