Since Alessandro Michele took the
reigns at Gucci, the Italian house has
had a renaissance on the red carpet not
seen since the Tom Ford era. From
Academy Award winners to stars on the
rise, all of Hollywood has been seeking
out Michele’s whimsical designs.
One standout moment for the brand this
year was Lupita Nyong’o at the Cannes
Film Festival in a grasshopper green
floor-length dress. The 32-year-old
actress isn’t afraid to twirl in the
spotlight—remember the gorgeous floaty
Prada dress she wore to the Oscars in
2014?—and this look was just as
impactful. Shortly thereafter, Charlotte
Casiraghi took to the same carpet in a
printed, ruffled frock, a romantic
silhouette which is fast becoming a
house signature—both Cate Blanchett
and Elle Fanning sported raspberry
dresses with subtly dramatic, tiered,
and pleated ruffles.
And speaking of pleats, pretty young
things Bella Heathcote and Chloë
Grace Moretz channeled stylish
ballerinas in their full-pleated Gucci
skirts and barely there camisoles. Fresh-
faced boys like Harry Styles are getting
in on the act, too, with the brand’s
louche Mick Jagger –like suiting. Leave
it to cool girl Gia Coppola to wear
Michele’s nerdy, Margot Tenenbaum–
worthy looks in real life, though—beret,
pussy-bow blouse, and all. With the
show taking place in Milan today ,
there’s a whole new batch of alluring
red carpet looks to choose from.
